這是美國相當知名的一首歌，裡面藏著一個感人的故事，是關於老橡樹上的黃絲帶：
一位剛從監獄釋放的年輕男子，在釋放前曾寫信給他的妻子，告訴她若她已另有歸宿，男子便會如歌詞所說，留在返鄉的巴士上並忘了他們之間的一切，如果她還願意接受他，那就在村口的老橡樹繫上一條黃絲帶吧，讓他回來的時候能夠看見。
當家鄉已近在眼前，車上的每個人無不引頸期盼，只有那個男子不敢望去，害怕樹上沒有那條黃絲帶，就如歌詞所言，他並未真正出獄，牢房的鑰匙還在他摯愛的手裡，然而當車子慢慢駛入村中，男子聽見車上每個人沸騰的歡呼聲，原來老橡樹上已經綁滿上百條的黃絲帶......。
很感人吧？這個故事名為《Going Home》，是《紐約郵報》於1971年10月14日刊登出來的真實故事，後來便被改編成這首美國家喻戶曉的名曲，在樹上綁著黃絲帶，就成了歡迎久別親人回家的標誌，也有人說黃絲帶代表著「脫出禁錮，重獲自由。」。
